A tremor in the force

I noticed last night that one of the drives in my TeraStation NAS has failed. I don’t think there was any data loss (Raid 5). I’ve got some other drives around the house, but this will be the first time in 28 months that I’ve had to crack open the Buffalo TeraStation. Considering how much we use it as a media server and for other backups, I’d say that’s pretty good.

UPDATE: New drive installed & array rebuilt. Everything survived intact. YEAH!

  1. Very interesting…..what type, size, etc. drive did you use for the replacement? 🙂

  2. You can use any size drive, as long it is at least as big/bigger than the other drives in the array. In my case, I added a 250GB ATA, as that is what the other three drives were.
