I thought I would check in with a few updates from my first week in Florida.
Work is… awesome. My old boss had a saying that really sums it up: I’m as happy as a dog riding in a car with my head out the window. And that’s how it has been so far. I love my new job. I love the challenge and the exceptional tempo here. Really… it’s just been incredible. I miss my old work team, but everyone has gone out of their way to make a boy from Texas feel right at home in Orlando.
That being said… I really miss my wife. This is the longest we have EVER been separated and it hasn’t been easy on me. Sure, I’m living in a luxury hotel… maid service… room service… laundry service…. But I would trade it all to be living in a cardboard box with my wife. (And the dogs, too, of course.)
I have done a little neighborhood hunting. I think we’re pretty resolved to the fact that we’ll likely get an apartment short term in an Orlando suburb, at least at first. We don’t want to pay two mortgages while waiting for our house to sell and this (Orlando) isn’t a housing market where you want to make a mistake, because houses are just sitting on the market for ever and ever. So… we’ll be patient and prudent. Who knows? Maybe we’ll custom build a house – which would be perfect while we’re getting everything moved.
That’s about it for now. I’ll try to blog more this week, but… as she said, I do have some travel plans to attend to this week, too.
I CAN’T WAIT FOR YOU TO COME HOME!!!!!!! The dogs and I miss you so much!
I’m glad you had a great first week, and I’m really glad you get to come home and see your wife this weekend. I swear, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think you work for my old company with all that great treatment going on. :o)
