The bang-to-hype ratio got a little out of sorts this week with the launch of the iPhone. (Of course, I haven’t seen one, so I could just be an idiot on the subject.)
A part of me — the part that might be inclined to actually buy an iPhone — isn’t focused on the “phone” features so much, but rather the integration of the services that I really do use.
Could I use a really slick PDA with good web access, with multi-account email access & sync, with music & movie playback that synced to my existing library? Yeah – all that would be pretty cool. Do I need a phone? No, I really don’t.
So, for now. I’m pretty happy over here on the sidelines – footloose and iPhone free.
But…. if Apple decides to turbo-charge an iPod with iPhone features and wireless access….. well, I see y’all in line! 🙂
I’m with you on this one. When the next generation of iPhone comes out, and if it has faster wireless, and if it integrates everything I already have on my laptop, then I’ll consider it.
I agree that this one may have issues, but if I still lived up there and had a high payin’ job, I so would’ve bought one anyway. Just because.
I need some sort of IM client…anything where I can access my AOL buddy lists, since that’s what we use at work.
Once that’s taken care of, then I really and truly will likely consider it. A co-worker bought one last weekend, and he just loves it so far.
