For a long, long, long time, Merrin & I have been debating whether to splurge for a HD DirecTivo. The benefits are obvious – HD from DirecTV and (yet another) Tivo. The trick was, you couldn’t get your locals in HD from DirecTV. It had to come from an antenna. (Blech.)
PVRBlog says that DirecTV has lost it’s bid to provide local HD service. I know it’s a short-term transition – just as local channels once were – but, I’m so glad I waited. I’ll keep waiting, because I like DirecTV, but there ought to be some way to improve competition in this market.
