OK. Second installment of ice cream talk and I’m already getting a brain freeze! 🙂
Today’s topic: Soft Serve versus Hand-Dipped Ice Cream
In my opinion, there is no real debate…hand-dipped all the way, baby! Soft serve is way too runny and can vary too much in consistency from vendor to vendor. Some of them get it right every time (Dairy Queen) and some of them can’t seem to figure it out (just about every where else!)
Hand-dipped ice cream is better because it comes in so many flavors. Soft serve comes in like -what- three flavors? What the heck?! If you want something beyond vanilla, chocolate, or swirl, you’re out of luck. When you’ve got hand-dipped ice cream, the world is your oyster. For all I know, there’s even an oyster-flavored ice cream! 🙂
Hand-dipped lends itself to chunks (cookie dough – yummy!) and to the genius of shops like Marble Slap that roll treats into the ice cream. Yes, you can put toppings on soft serve, but it’s so watered down to start with that it hardly seem worth it – doesn’t it?
So, in conclusion, it’s hand-dipped all the way. Please feel free to leave simple, one-word comments because I know that you’re all just going to agree with me. 🙂
I’m a hand-dipped girl. But it also comes as no surprise that you prefer hand-dipped as well, considering the late night whining often heard around our house that goes something like this:
“Merrrrriiiiinnnnn!!!!!!!! Will you get me some iiiicccceeee ccrrreeeeaaaammmm?” 😉
Hmph! I always thought you were a chocolate syrup girl!
Hand dipped. Gold Medal Ribbon from Baskin Robbins. Vanilla, Chocolate, Fudge & Caramel, all blended together. My mouth is watering now. YUM. (Cookie dough is good too. And Oreo Cookies. Yum.)
I do love a Blizzard from Dairy Queen with Reeses Peanut Butter cups blended in too. De-li-cious! But that is the only way I like soft-serve. Otherwise, I’m a hand dipped girl!
Yup. I prefer hand dipped. Marble Slab is yummy. We have Amy’s Ice Cream here, too, that crushes candy into the ice cream. 🙂
I have to agree with you this ONE time. Hand dipped is the best. I love Jamoca Almond Fudge from Baskin Robbins, and Toffe Caramel Crunch from Dreamery. Ooh, and we got one last year that was seasonal…I think it was from Dreamery, and it was Maple Pecan or something like that. That shit was good!
I’m all about hand dipped as well. One of my favorite place, is not one of the fancy city folk places you mention. Its a very old mom and pop gas station/feed store/general store/ice cream place. You can get your self a hand dipped butter pecan cone for the country price of .25
Well, you probably knew I was going to say this, but I like soft-serve. When I’m in the mood for something different, I go for the scoops – but usually chocolate soft serve is my fav. (Call me a simple girl I guess) 🙂
I’m a hand dipped Carvel girl. Nothing beats a Carvel ice cream cake either. I was lucky enough to work there during high school where I helped myself to more than my fair share of ice cream on a regular basis.
However – Carvel soft chocolate with marshmallow topping (the gooey stuff) has also been known to send me into a frenzy.
