Friday Five

Questions courtesy of FridayFive.org:

1. What is your current occupation? Is this what you chose to be doing at this point in your life? Why or why not? I’m a sales manger for the Westin golf resort in Fort Worth. As far whether I “chose to be doing this”, well, I’m not sure — but I love my job and really don’t want to do anything else. I mean — come on — I work in sales at a Westin golf resort. What more could you want?

2. If time/talent/money were no object, what would your dream occupation be? I don’t know. I wouldn’t mind being a pro athelete, except for the whole getting hurt thing. So, maybe I’d just be one of those guys that sails around the world all the time. Or, I could always open a marina/night club on the shores of some remote cay in the Bahamas. Or a pro golfer.

3. What did/do your parents do for a living? Has this had any influence on your career choices? My father is an engineer by trade and has been in marketing/sales since I was really young. I’d say that definately had an influence on me. My mom stayed home to raise two sons. That had a strong influence on me as well. So, now I’m a sales manager who likes to be with his family!

4. Have you ever had to choose between having a career and having a family? Not in those exact terms. There are managers I work with who put in 70+ hour weeks and never seem to go home. I still work 55+ hours, but I don’t let work intrude on my life once I leave the office for the night or weekend.

5. In your opinion, what is the easiest job in the world? What is the hardest? Why? Effort wise, the easiest job in the world might be the guy who watches the video monitor to make sure people pay at the toll booths. I mean, you just watch the screen and if you miss one or two — the county/city/state/whoever doesn’t really care, do they?! The hardest job in the world –without question– is being a mother. You couldn’t begin to pay a mother a dollar amount that would be equal to their responsibilities or the impact they have on a child’s life.

Have a great weekend, kiddies. Don’t forget…FSU plays tomorrow!

1. What is your lineage? Where are your ancestors from? This is an ironic topic, as my Dad & I spent about 8 hours working on moving the family tree back yet another generation. I think we’re back 8 generations on his side (both his father’s and his mother’s). We still have a way’s to go on my mother’s line, but I’m getting off the point. My ancestors come from Ireland and Scotland.

2. Of those countries, which would you most like to visit? I would love to go to Ireland.

3. Which would you least like to visit? Why? Well, given that I only had two choices, I guess it would be Scotland. But that’s not really true. I would like to go Scotland, but I would love to go to Ireland.

4. Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage? I celebrate St. Patrick’s day. Does that count?

5. Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)? We’re 99% sure that John Donoho was my first American immigrant ancestor. He came from Ireland prior to the American Revolution.

Happy Friday!
