ATTENTION HOTMAIL USERS

If you use Microsoft’s Hotmail service, you need to read this and take action now!

Microsoft recently added new “opt-in/opt-out” features for new Hotmail accounts. Folks signing up for new accounts can elect to receive promotional mail and share their personal information. If you already have a Hotmail account, Microsoft has added these options to your account as well. However, your Hotmail account is has been modified to share (at least) the following personal information:

Birth Date
Country/Region
State
ZIP Code
Gender
Accessibility
Time Zone
Occupation

Additionally, Hotmail may be sharing your email address as well as your first and last name.

To change this option, you need to do the following:

  • Log into Hotmail (click here for new window)
  • Click “OPTIONS” at along the Hotmail Tab bar.
  • Access your Personal Profile
  • Clear the checkmark from the box at the bottom of the screen permitting Hotmail to share your “personal information” with other sites. Note: You can also instruct Hotmail not to share your name and email address with other sites in the two preceding checkboxes.

    Thank you. That is all.
