If British historian and map expert Gavin Menzies is correct, we could soon be celebrating Chinese admiral Zheng He Day instead of Columbus Day. Menzies (who has a very tricked up and uncomfortable name) will present the evidence he has collected to the Royal Geographical Society later this week. While many historical documents seem to support his claim, perhaps his greatest argument is the simplest: ‘The writings and logs of Christopher Columbus, James Cook and Ferdinand Magellan acknowledge they had and used maps,’ Mr Menzies said. His evidence? Chineese maps showing all the land masses dated from 1420. (More Info)
