Bucs still bumbling, but in the right direction

ESPN.com and the Tampa Tribune have reported that the Bucs have received permission to negotiate with Steve Mariucci, coach of the 49’ers, for the position of head coach plus some GM responsibilities. Out in San Fran, the GM for the Niners explained: “We gave Steve permission to go and talk to Tampa Bay because this is an opportunity that is unique,” 49ers general manager Terry Donahue said. “If it had just been for a head coaching position, my own personal belief, is that we would not have granted that position.” Long story short, the greatness of Rich McKay is going away.

Here’s hoping they land Mariucci. He’s a great football coach and I’d hate to see them insult Monte Kiffen by forcing him into an interim gig. Too bad they don’t want a defensive-minded coach. Kiffen’s going to be a head coach someday soon and I’d like to see him stay on the Buc’s sidelines.

  1. You would think when you have one of the most admired GMs and the most respected coaches that you would leave well enough alone. Not those boys. I think they’ve got Jerry Jones – itis. But like I said here, at least the Bucs cheerleaders have it together!
