Merry Christmas, Iraq
Merry Christmas, Iraq. Saddam Hussien is in custody and will never again threaten your sons & daughters.
Thank you so much to the brave American soldiers that have stood on the front lines to say to the Iraqi people that we believe in their future. More importantly, thank you to the brave Iraqis who came forward at great personal risk to assist our troops in finding some of the people who have threatened, intimidated, and murdered Iraqis for years.
Also, to the task force that found Saddam, I must applaud your professionalism. When they found the man that has been responsible for hundreds of American troops and perhaps hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, it probably would have been understandable to shoot him on the spot. That didn’t happen. In fact, not a single shot was fired.
Saddam was captured by the US Special Forces Task Force 2 in Tikrit. They got a tip and acted on it. They didn’t find Saddam in either of the farmhouse bedrooms, but later found Saddam hiding in 6′ hole below the farmhouse.
I was (and continue to be) touched by the images of the Iraqis celebrating the arrival of US troops months ago. It’s quite possible that the most touching image years from now, though, may be the tears and cheers of the Iraqi reporters and media when the announcement came, “Ladies and gentlemen, we got him.”
A joyous day for Iraq, America, and everyone who loves freedom. Merry Christmas one and all!
